MG 3 1.5L

I'm sure that we all know that MG is now owned by the Chinese but the Chinese are keeping a little bit of every car British, by having the finishing touches of the production process made in Longbridge.
The 3 is the first hatchback they are going to make. This one has a 1.5 litre 4 cylinder engine that produces 107bhp and 84lbs/ft of torque. This makes it one of the least torquey engines you've ever read about in this blog. This means it takes 12.5 seconds to reach 60, about the time it took me to read Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and it calls 112mph its top speed which isn't bad to be honest.

The good things about the cornering abilities of the 3 are plenty of grip, limited roll and good stability. There is a slight problem however. The steering is electronically assisted which means it lacks feel to the point of being feather light, it fact it's probably harder to lift a feather. It's a shame because the chassis could do so much more if you had some confidence to push it.

The styling isn't bad but it isn't great. It is a very ordinary looking car this, nothing wrong with it but nothing that stands out. There is some slight flaring in the wheel arches but to be honest this car looks uncannily like a Fabia. It'll be one of those cars that you don't take notice of when you're out and about.

The interior however is a different story. The dash is simple in a classy way and is very functional. It is pleasant to look at and provides a great aura to be in. What isn't so pleasant is the plastic. To be a big hit here it'll need some more upmarket materials, if it can do that then MG is on to a winner with the interior.

If this car is priced right then it could be a success. It's a shame therefore that it isn't. It costs £14,000 which is too much. If this car had cost £8,000 then it would have been better. As it stands it is priced in and among VW Polos, Citroen DS3s and the Audi A1. It should have been priced around the same as Chevys Aveo and Skodas Fabia, then it would be a car I'd encourage you to look at with enthusiasm. Now I'd say go take a look before you write it off your list.

It's not a bad car this but it isn't a great one, it's one of those that'll fall in with the rest of the crowd as it does nothing to stand out.
