Change of Plans

Today I thought I'd be blogging about the Skoda Yeti but as you've gathered from the title I won't be.

Today we saw qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix and it was an awesome spectacle. It also saw one of the most scary accidents F1 has seen for a long time. Young Sergio Perez of Sauber F1 went a little wide (a little is a lot in Monaco) coming out of the tunnel. He braked for the chicane after the tunnel and his car snapped into vicious oversteer causing him to hit the barrier on the right hand side of the circuit. He then careened off sideways into the barrier separating the emergency road with the track. He must've hit it at over 100mph.

He did 100 to 0 in a second, instant stop. It was a frightening accident indeed and one that prompted him to have to be helped out of the car after he was unconscious. Apparently now he seems to be OK but will take no part in tomorrows GP with a slight concussion and thigh injury.

What this accident proves is just how far the safety in F1 has come on. In the days of Senna Perez would've been dead before he got to the medical centre. That's the reason why I've changed topics today. I want to give a warm Cars and Observations shout out to the Health and Safety improvements in F1, even though it's a small and insignificant one.

At least we have been reminded that Monaco is still a preciously difficult circuit and that F1 drivers are still risking life and limb when they leave there pit garages.
