I was thinking today, what am I going to blog about? The answer then came to me and I wondered why it was even in doubt.
The Audi S3 is the sporting edition of the A3, a bit obvious I suppose and the model I'm talking about is the model from 2002. The first thing is that the S3 has Quattro drive, four wheel drive in case you're not familiar with Audi terminology. This is couple with lower suspension and sports tyres. The result is something that corners like a limpet. You can throw it at corners with reckless abandon and the car will hold on without a fuss, the tyres will screech a bit but that's it.
The engine is a 4 cylinder in line turbocharged unit producing 225 bhp. This means 0-60 is good for 6.4 seconds and the top speed is 151mph. So it's no slouch then! There can be a little turbo lag involved but nothing too serious and when the lag is over, all hell breaks loose. It gathers itself up and flings itself at the horizon very nicely indeed. With the four wheel drive taking care of traction you'll find that the pace is relentless, provided you keep it in the higher reaches of the torque range.
The weird thing is that it looks just like a normal A3, so you won't be conspicuous when rolling around town. The styling suggests this is more for a gentlemen racer rather than a hooligan, like the Citroen Saxo. The grill for example is small and dignified rather than gurning and idiotic. The doors have no creases, like an ironed business shirt and the wheel arches have only the modested bit of flaring. It's a hot hatch in the vain that Audi does best, grown up.
The interior is a similar affair, not much to say really. Equipment levels are generous and the leather isn't in short supply. The thing that I find most interesting is that it is very comfortable. It is not cramped in any way and the driving position is pleasant, at least for me. I have no reason to believe that anybody would be disappointed by it.
I'm not sure how much one would cost you these days but I doubt it would cost much. Running it isn't going to be cheap however as the insurance is huge and it drinks fuel like George Michael drinks alcohol, in vast quantities. This is a small price to pay in my mind for what is a very stylish, handsome and capable gentlemans hot hatch. my summing up of the interior is a very poinient sum up for the whole thing really, I doubt anyone would be disappointed by it!
Thanks for reading my blog and as usual have a nice day.
