When I started following the Saab story way back in my blog with the entry Saab Over The Precipice http://carsandobservations.blogspot.com/2011/09/saab-over-precipice.html, I never thought that I would be covering the story so much, but I am.
The latest episode in the save Saab saga sees Saab pleading with the Swedish courts not to declare them bankrupt. They say that a deal with Chinese investors is only a short way off. Saabs very own press officer (probably going bankrupt with the amount they're paying him at the moment) said that the reason why Saab hadn't filed an opinion on the matter was because the deal with the investors is so close.
It seems as though Saab were given a deadline by the courts to give their reasons for not being declared bankrupt, however Saab missed it and started making excuses just that littlest bit too late.
In any case this is all troubling news for the Swedish firm. As well as not having any investors at this point they now have a legal issue to resolve. The catch 22 being that who's going to want to invest in a company that is having legal trouble? Will this scare away the very close Chinese investment? All I can say is I hope not because for some wierd reason I desperately want to see Saab survive and I know I'm not the only one.
My main reason is that I don't like seeing any car manufacturer disappear because I believe the industry is a sorrier place without them. That goes for any manufacturer, not just Saab. Thing with Saab is that they produce many handsome alternatives to BMWs, Mercedes's and Audi's that it'd be a shame to see them consigned to the history books.
I'll keep you posted as I find out more but for now thankyou for reading and I hope you'll return again soon!
