Exciting news!

Chrysler have just announced they are developing a new eight speed gearbox which is interesting because I'm just messing with ya. Chrysler are developing a new box but we're not interested in that are we?

Today I'm talking about the British firm Ginetta. The reason for that is that they've just announced their flagship car the G60. This car will be moved along by a 310bhp V6 engine sourced, apparantly, from the Ford Mustang. Difference between those two cars being the Mustang is so heavy not even a tank engine with a hurricane behind it could get it to accelerate fast. The Ginetta however will be light. Do you remember the Farbio GTS? Nope neither do I but Ginetta say the car will be based, but heavily reworked on, the carbon fibre tub that car used. I've only ever driven that car in a computer game and since the game has the worst physics engine known to gaming, I couldn't say if it had good grip, not that that would matter anyway.

The production of this new beast has been switched to a new factory and this is important because Ginetta think it is. In fact they say it's the reason for the reworking of the carbon tub. They also say that they made it easier to manufacture, stripped out wieght, realigned the driving position and stiffened the thing up a bit. This all begs the question what have they done to acheive all this?

According to reports on Autocar Ginetta have taken a simpler, driver focused setup with changes that include and I'm reading the document for this bit unassisted steering, no anti lock brakes, no driving aids, and servo less brakes. The result of all this rawness is a kerb weight of 1100kgs. What all of that tech blurb actually means is this, this car will be driven by nothing except the drivers skills. No Manetino aids here, it's all down to you.

Power will be sent to the rear wheels via a six speed Ford gearbox and dealt with by a Quaife limited slip diff. Combined with the 310bhp V6 I mentioned at the top of this blog the Ginetta G60 will hit 60mph in under four seconds and the top speed is in excess of 165mph.

So how much is all of this going to cost? 65K. Not that much when you think about it and now I shall leave you with a picture.
