M Division not allowed to make it's own bespoke car.

Trolling through the automobile news today I uncovered two bits of BMW news.

One was about the seventh generation three series and the other was about the M Division wanting to make it's very own bespoke car. I thought hte news about the M Division was a little bit more interesting.

It seems as though BMW isn't keen on the idea of letting the M boys go it alone on an SLS rival. I have to be honest that this surprises me. It's long been common opinion that BMW M cars handle better than Mercedes AMG cars. Although AMGs cars tend to be more powerful it's not normally by much. In fact most of the time when cars from the two divisions meet in car magazines dual tests the Beemer comes out on top.

As such it does surprise me that BMW doesn't let the M guys come up with a SLS rival. It actually makes pretty reasonable business sense. BMW doesn't have any model higher up than the M5 which despite being a fantastic super saloon isn't a SLS rival and it's no supercar. Porsche makes a very nice amount of money selling 911s and in fact now that I think about it supercar sales are about the only sales not being affected in the credit crunch era as their clientele aren't the ones suffering. Adding a supercar to the mix now makes good sense considering this.

And considering the fact that BMs perform better than Mercs you'd bet it'd be a great supercar. Then again BMW is refusing the notion and as such it's not going to happen. Shame really, would've liked to see it done. Thanks for reading todays blog and please do join me again soon for more news.
