When people ask about the point of supercars they are usually trying to make you believe that they are a waste of time, money and the planets resources. I think differently however.
Supercars have no use, that much is undeniable. If you have a car that can do 200mph then you have, in essence, 130 wasted miles per hour. They often accelerate so fast that you don't get to use full throttle very often and if you do then it's not for long and not without a need for new underpants. You can't do the shopping in them. They aren't brilliant for transporting luggage on holiday. They make you stop for fuel five times a mile. If it gets wet then you crash because you can't put the power down without sliding the thing. They tend not to be the most comfortable things around with their sports seats and worst of all, bycyclists hurl abuse at you and curse your very name for driving them. This is all not to mention you can't bring the kids and your wife and they're so wide you can't go down country lanes.
So yes, supercars are completely useless. They are however very important. Ordinary folk who lead ordinary lives don't usually get too much to smile about. Their life is a constant grinding routine, they see other such people on the road in the Micras and Fiestas and think "is there nothing interesting today?" Supercars give poeple like this something to gawp at, something to smile at, something to talk about in work to their colleagues and most importantly, something to brighten the normal routine. They bring a little bit of happiness into peoples lives. Seeing a bright red Ferrari is like seeing a pituresque statue. Take my walk into college last Wednesday, there were many cars around (supercars that is) but at one point there was one, a Jag XKR, sat at some traffic lights waiting to go on with it's journey. In front of me were a couple whos eyes were magnetically drawn to the XK, as were mine. You hear them discuss its relevant merits and it's at this time the point to supercars becomes obvious.
Useless though they maybe, they are a spectacle to behold, each one a ninth wonder of the world.
The Friday Vlog is coming tomorrow because I went to my grandmas today and got caught up with the Royal Wedding, congratulations to the wedded couple from me and everyone who reads Cars and Observations.
Thanks for reading on this day, don't they make a wonderful couple?
