F1 2011.

It may seem as though I've been late to pull the trigger when it comes to giving my opinions on the latest raft of rule changed in F1, but I haven't. I held this one off purposefully, in order to give a more informed opinion on what I think, now that we are two races in.

The return of KERS is something that is just there in my opinion. The question, does it make races more exciting (the reason it's there) is an easy one to answer. No. It does do one thing however. The start of the race is more unpredictable than ever. Using KERS off the start will help accentuate a good start and make for a real shake up of the grid, look no further than the starts Renault have been making. A car with great traction now with KERS there to greaten there advantage.

DRS is something just a little bit more interesting. It stands for Drag Reduction System and what it does is allow a driver to raise a flap (a bit like a letterbox) on his rear wing to reduce drag, and in turn, go faster. He's only allowed to use it on a certain part of the track and if he's within a second of the driver in front. Whether or not this system makes overtaking too easy is deabateable but even if it does I say this; I'd rather watch a battle where two drivers are constantly overtaking each other over one where one is driving behind the other all the time. The latter can serve to ruin someones race and deprive us of witnessing another battle that driver might have otherwise gotten into. Do I like it? Yes, absoloutely.

Of course you also have the 107% rule in qualifying make it's return. I don't have an opinion on that as to be honest, I couldn't car less whether it's there or not.

But there you are, my verdict on the new rules.
