The Mono is the important part of this cars name because the car only has one seat. You read that right, it has just one seat which means it's the first single seater car for the road. You probably have an image in your head of a Mclaren on the road, rolling through suburban UK providing the ultimate driving thrill on the road. Thing is it doesn't look that much like an F1 car but more a Formula Ford. Still, that's very impressive.
The cars main focus is on what makes it go round corners rather than a straight line and in keeping with the cars focus I shall tell you a little bit about what it features. To keep the car light it's made predominantly out of carbon fibre and it worked, the car only weighs 540kg, making it one of the lightest production cars on the planet. It uses Pushrod Suspension and if that means nothing to you then hopefully this will help, it's a similar setup to those used in F1. The other thing that the car uses is AP racing brakes, yes, they are there to give unrivalled braking power.
With all that helping in the corners it's not going to be good if you get beaten of the start by a standard saloon car. To prevent that from happening the car has a 2.3 litre four pot Cosworth engine with a six speed sequential gearbox which produces 280bhp and 206lbs/ft of torque. Couple that with 540kgs and the result is 527bhp per tonne, which is better than the 1,000bhp Bugatti Veryon. How does all this translate into performance I hear you ask? 0-60 takes just 2.8 seconds and the top speed is only 170mph (please note that sarcasm is intended when I say only).
It will cost £80,000 when it goes on sale which means it's quite expensive for a track day car but considering the tech and the exclusivity (only 50 will be made a year) it is a very reasonable fee.
Truth is, I really like the look and idea of the BAC Mono and in case you're wondering what BAC stands for, it stands for Briggs Automotive Company and is based in Cheshire.
Here's a little picture for you to see.
