The new Ferrari 599!

Oh yeah here it comes. The new Fezza 599 is set to be officially unveiled next Wednesday but today whilst going over the Autocar news there is a leaked image (allegedly) of the new car.

As I result I'm bringing this blog post forward to coincide because I can't wait to see it myself. The image I've seen is supposedly a wooden finished model designed to show us what the new car will look like. Since the image is what caused Autocar to write about it, I will start with a look at what I can see. The first striking thing is a re-designed front bumper resembling that seen on the FF earlier this year. The biggest difference is that the evil grin has been broken up by having some extra cutaways on the front wings. This is no doubt an aerodynamically influenced feature. The lights look very similar to those seen on the FF and I suspect they might be the same ones.

The rear of the car hasn't seen too much of a change. It is sleeker and tighter packaged but still retains the same shape. In fact if you cross the current 599 with the California then you'll have a very good idea of what to expect. The side of the car features creasing on the door panels but not much else. One thing that I do find myself notcing, strangely, is that it has the same door pulls rather than handles. I mention it because I tend to find them feeling fragile when I use them.

Here comes some juicy technical information. Ferrari haven't gone with the whole downsizing deal with the new car and have instead stuck with the current 6.2 litre V12 engine which sees action in the current 599, FF and Enzo/FXX. It's a unit that in top spec FXX Evoluzione form produces 850bhp. The version in the new 599 isn't likely to produce that much power but is still likely to be the most powerful road car Ferrari has ever made with official figures likely to be 710bhp. This isn't what you'd call a low number of brake horses if you ask me.

Something else interesting is that it'll be extremely light. Wierdly Ferrari havn't gone down the carbon fibre route when creating their monocoque structure, much unlike Lamborghini and Mclaren. Instead they are sticking with an alloy structure. The reason for not switching to carbon fibre is that according to the Maranello boys CB is not suitable for the volume production they need for the 599. This line also indicates that the new car isn't going to be super exclusive (as far as Ferarris go). No need to worry however as I'm sure there will be a super exclusive GTO like model in the near future.

Whatever details I have cannot be taken too seriously however as the official announcements will be made next week on Wednesday. But for what it's worth the new model does seem to be something very special indeed. Here's the image for you to make your own mind up.

Thankyou very much for reading and please join me again soon.
