The 5 Lotus's

On the 30th of December Lotus went to the Paris Motor Show with just one thing in mind. To unveil six new cars however news on the sixth car is hard to come by, so instead I'm just going to report on five of them.

Their plan takes them up to 2016 and will see six brand new models unveiled and they are: a new Elise, a new Elan, A new Espirit supercar, a new Elite, a new model entirely called an Eterne (which will be based on the Elite) and a city car to keep the average CO2 down.

The plan is, as anyone would say, ambitious but Lotus cheifs are adamant they'll be able to pull it off. If they do then Lotus will have completely changed in almost every conceivable way. Gone will be the days where Lotus make small, light, basic and low powered handling machines and in will be the days of more powerful, bigger and more luxurious cars. Also gone (hopefully) will be the days where Lotus makes no money at all and in their stead will be days of prosperity.

I just don't know what will happen to Lotus's current fan base. Maybe they'll all turn to company's like Caterham or Ariel to get their lightweight affordable track day cars. Who knows? Maybe they'll keep going with Lotus and help it keep some customers but that seems unlikely because the new cars will be targeting a completely different audience! Will it work and bring Lotus a brighter future? Only time will tell that story!

Cars shown are the Espirit and Elite respectively.
