Kids and Cars

They don't mix well.

Take for example a Audi R8 5.2 V10 priced at around 119K and then add in a group of 5 over excited children. What happens?

That is exactly what I'm going to tell you since on Saturday I bore witness to it. I was at the Royal Cornwall Show and on display (unlocked) was a beautiful Audi R8 Spyder. Obviously I was excited as this is one of the dream cars. It's up there with Ferrari's and Lamborghini's. I went to sit in it and found it to be extremely nice and well crafted inside. But it was the sort of careful crafting that looked quite delicate and as a whole the car itself looks delicate. Not in photos but in the metal it's hard to imagine it standing up to any type of impact.

Anyway after lusting over the V10 engine I moved on to look at the Audi TT next door. Whilst I was doing this there was a stampede of small children accompanied by parents who looked helplessly out of control! The kids made a belign for the R8 and what happened next wasn't amusing, not least for the dealer that was charged with selling the car. The kids got in, well two of them did. They started pressing everything and then stood up on the leather seats. By this time the others had jumped on to the sides of the doors hanging on for dear life (like you would a fence) and yes scratches started to appear. Next they even jumped over the doors and hit them too! It was quite extraordinary. The poor dealer charged with looking after the car was paralyzed with shock and didn't appear to bothered because of it. I could tell I wasn't the only one astonished by what was happening as the other 2-300 people also stopped and stared!

Later that day I encountered a few Porsche's that seemed marked up and I only assumed they had received the same treatment. It seemed evident that the dealer had tried some on site therapy but the damage was obvious. Loose trim in Porsche's just doesn't happen!

My conclusion is that cars and kids are not two things to put in a blending machine! Well not supercars and kids. Not that you could of course because the car wouldn't fit. The kids would be fine but definately not the car!
