OTT? Oh yeah.

This isn't about a new car! It's about the old style Ford KA. The luxury model to be absoloutely specific.

The first thing that struck me was the luxury part! Luxury, on a cheap supermini? On paper supermini and luxury are not two words that you'll find in the same sentence! Apart from the last one. The reason for that is because making a car luxurious and out of quality materials tends to add weight! In a Rolls Royce that's not real issue as you can add more power to lug it all around. In a supermini however you can't! If you did then the car would become expensive and thirsty. Not something you'd exactly want from a little, cheap to run machine!

Ford however have done that. Unsurprisingly it's the most expensive, most powerful and most expensive to run verison of the KA you can get discluding the SportKA. When driving I found no real difference other than the fact that it was quieter! But it's the inside where it seems to go wrong.

Leather seats? While they may be comfortable they looked out of place and understandibly so! If seen in a Bentley then yes have them but in a Ford KA? It's a nice idea in theory but practicly it doesn't work. Then there's a leather steering wheel. Whilst it didn't look out of place in the car it didn't do anything to bolster it's image and so is a pointless waste of Beef Burger! The electronics though do make a difference. It's so nice to press a button rather than manually winding up your own windows. Doing it manually sort of feels like slavery all be it not as intense. There's that and the fact that it's quicker to press a button. Then you have remote locking. GREAT! If you're a ostentacious oaf who (and I've seen it for sure) stands back after unlocking your car looking for admiring faces, people astounded at what you just did! It does however help when you have two heavy carrier bags in your hands.

But in reality buying a luxury supermini isn't going to be about making your life nicer! Not really. It's going to be about making a statement. Showing off! It's why the other day whilst queing to pay for petrol I saw a t*** (and that's exactly what he was) say "I'm the Bentley" rather than what pump he was parked at. I doubt that having a KA is really going to be much to shout about. Even it it is a leather coated one! It's not exatly going to turn heads in the street. Not say like an BMW M3 would turn heads compared to an ordinary 3 series car.

It's for this reason that I have to conclude that the Luxury KA is pointless! It's just going over the top to extend the range of the cars appeal! I'm sure you'll agree that a KA is quite appealing enough anyway.
