"Elegance in the extreme" is the title headlining the document I'm reading about the new RS7.
So what is there to these meaningless PR words?
First is a 4 litre Bi turbo V8 engine that produces 560bhp and 516lbs/ft of torque which is a lot. So much in fact that this large car can haul itself to 60mph in 3.9 seconds and then on to a top speed of 189mph. This sounds all well and good to me but the A7 is a luxury coupe. The word luxury doesn't normally mean fast and sporty.
What you would ideally want from a RS7 is speed and comfort. Two things that are mutually exclusive most of the time. Well you get Audis famed Quattro all wheel drive system which should mean that cornering isn't going to be an issue. But comfort? The RS7 comes with "adaptive air suspension". The idea is short is that when you're on a track or anywhere else where you want maximum cornering prowess you set it to RS mode which lowers the ride height and all sorts of very exciting things. But if you're cruising down the motorway you can have the rise height nice and high and soft so that those long journeys melt away in a honey coated blanket.
When taking a closer look at the engine you see a similar story as the RS7 features stop start technology so that the planet burning V8 doesn't burn the planet, if you see what I mean. The RS7 should have no issues hitting over 20mpg. Very impressive for a car that has 560bhp.
Visually there are the normal design changes; RS logos, flared arches, widened air intakes and the whole nine yards.
The car is also adorned with more gadgets than a Batmobile. This includes adaptive cruise control, bang and olufsen stereo and night vision cameras. All of this is sure to have Mr Wayne frothing at the mouth.
And it should. If the RS7 is anything close to what the advertising bumf builds it up to be it's going to be a very spectacular car indeed.
